Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, High Barrel

What I love about the barrels is the intensity of the abdominal work you can do, as well as the spine mobility you gain from this static piece of pilates equipment.

SamsaraPoleStudio with Barrel repertoire.

Paulina Fassini on the Ladder Barrel, she moves so beautifully.

You can see why dancers are drawn to pilates!!! Check out this clip from Pilates Boutique Bondi Beach. Her leg work is amazing, but I would love to see more stability through her shoulder girdle. She is obviously having a great time!!!

Wunder Chair/ Combo Chair

Joseph Pilates designed the Wunder Chair as a functional piece of furniture that you could exercise on in your lounge. Check out the expansive repertoire on this great piece of equipment.

Federico Randazzo describes a number of challenging exercises on the Combo Chair.

Another great clip from Portalfitness.

Benefits of Pilates

FLEXIBILITY!!! maybe not quite as flexible as this!!!

STRENGTH AND MUSCLE TONE and beautiful technique

MORE EFFICIENT CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

LESS STRESS

A FLAT STOMACH, do this exercise, but maintain a neutral pelvic position. I love how clearly this clip describes how not to do a curl up, and then how to keep the connection of the deep abdominals.

BETTER POSTURE, i love where Johann's Yoga is coming from

REDUCED HEADACHES, with less medication.

REDUCED BACK PAIN, pilates is done mostly lying flat with the least amount of stress on the spine, as well as stretching all the muscles around the pelvic girdle, as well as improve posture, balance, and body awareness.

Just like Hiro in this clip, Pilates will BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM!!!

INCREASES BONE DENSITY Osteoporosis and Osteopenia (the precursor to osteoporosis) – loss of bone density that makes people, especially women over 50 vulnerable to fractures and bone breaks, especially of the spine, hips and wrists. Pilates programs can help to increase bone density, but also if you have osteoporosis programs designed specifically to take pressure off the spine, hips, and wrists are used, preventing any risk of bone fractures. You don’t have to be over 50 to be affected by decrease in bone density. Celiac disease can cause Osteopenia, and some cancer treatments can also affect bone density.

SAFE FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY DURING PREGNANCY AND EXCELLENT POST NATAL TOO!!!

Abdominal Cueing

Here are some tips for cueing the activation of the deep abdomnials

I love seeing students become teachers - taking control and confidently communicating the essence of an exercise. Over the period of a course you see it build a person's self esteem, improve posture, increase core strength and deep abdominal activation. This is one reason why I really love training teachers!!!
